Solfa Streams handbook
Note & rest entry
Short, practical help designed for lookup: follow the procedure, then compare the result in your score.
In Engrave mode, letter keys enter tonic solfa. Rest entry mode (N) changes how the caret advances after each edit.
Syllables
Procedure
- Select a note or rest.
- Type letters for a syllable (two-letter combinations such as
douse two keystrokes). - Ambiguous first letters pause briefly; the editor completes or commits the single letter after a short timeout.
- Delete / Backspace on a single note turns it into a rest; on a multi-note selection of notes only, the same keys convert them to rests.
Hold (dash)
Procedure
- Select the rest you want to tie forward from the previous syllable in the same beat structure.
- Press - (minus).
Result
With sticky duration modes, the editor builds the correct fractional hold; in auto mode the usual one-beat/tuplet rules apply.
N mode (rest entry)
Procedure
- Press N or choose the amber N toggle on the toolbar.
- After each replacement, focus jumps to the next logical note or rest on that staff (Shift+← / Shift+→ still move manually).
- Press Esc to leave N mode.
Duration modes (toolbar)
Procedure
- Auto — keep the slot size of the selected note or rest.
- 1/2 — split a full beat into two half-beat slots (or fill a half slot with a quarter when already subdivided).
- 1/4 — split a full beat into four quarter-beat slots for fine typing.
Entry octave
Procedure
- Turn on N mode.
- Use toolbar Oct− / Oct+ or Ctrl+, / Ctrl+' to shift typed notes by octave before they are committed.
